Nova Distinctive Floors Cork Flooring
In early 2005 Nova Distinctive Floors started to distribute the molding line from Italy-Pedross- in the United States. Pedross is one of the biggest molding manufacturers in Europe and they’ve recently celebrated their 50th year. Nova Distinctive Floors started in 2001 with a Swiss manufacturer. Nova Distinctive Floors brings two top-of-the line products to North America. In January 2006, Nova Distinctive Floors also established its Eastern distribution center in Atlanta, GA. Nova is now one of the main cork suppliers in the industry with high quality products, with superior customer service and competitive pricing for the industry and also for the end user. Cork is the soft tissue composed of dead cells found in the inner bark of the cork oak tree with a honeycomb structure that has 100 million air-cells per cubic inch. Every 9 to 10 years, the bark of the cork tree is stripped from its trunks. It is cork’s gaseous composition that makes the cork both compressible and elastic and allows it to return to its original shape after being subjected to pressure. It is the same reason that cork is a perfect sound and thermal insulator which is why cork floors are used in many places like churches, libraries, museums, art galleries and in homes for perfect comfort and warmth.

Providing proper maintenance begins with knowing two key components of your cork floors, cork will fade if it is exposed directly to sunlight/UV light and it will react to humidity and temperature fluctuation. Additionally, UV inhibited clear coat protectors can be applied over your finished floor. Area rugs and large furniture will block light exposure and cause uneven coloration. To minimize this, furnishing and floor coverings should be moved periodically. Simply sweep or vacuum your floor frequently in order to avoid dirt build up, which may scratch the finish. Do not use any abrasive or aggressive cleaners or solvents that contain glycerin, as these will attack the surface and could make refinishing impossible. Spills should be cleaned immediately. Chairs with casters should have minimum 2” casters. Use mats under these chairs to protect your finish from becoming dull. Furniture or chair feet should sit on wide coasters to prevent excessive indentation. Nova Distinctive Floors recommends putting additional coats of Bona Kemi Traffic polyurethane in order to seal the seams to prevent any water penetration. Problem areas must be abraded sufficiently in order to completely remove the imperfections in the polyurethane.
